Bachelor Gulch Home

Exterior view from beyond firepit, Colorado Kitchen fireplace in mountain home, Colorado This home is located in Bachelor Gultch Village near the Beaver Creek ski resort, Colorado. It sits atop a ridge, offering magnificent views of Gore Range, Vail Valley, and the ski slopes. It has ski in and ski out access.
Dining room in mountain home, Colorado Grand fireplace and livingroom in mountain home, Colorado Snowdon & Hopkins have designed many remarkable homes, but never one like this. What is extraordinary is the "Great Room". Rather than having several rooms for the kitchen, breakfast, mud, dining, billiard, family, and living rooms - the usual solution - the client wanted all of these spaces in one Great Room. They wanted the feeling of a lodge. They wanted all the members of their extended family, and all their guests, to be able to do their various activities while interacting with and in sight of each other.
Kitchen in mountain home, Colorado Courtyard of mountain home, Colorado Designing homes that are showcases has its own special challenges. The biggest challenge we have found is to design a magnificent space, but one that is cozy. Magnificence and coziness are qualities that are difficult to produce in the one space. But with this home we did it. When people step into the residence, they are awe-struck... even people who own several wonderful homes and who are not easily impressed. But at the same time, they are comfortable. They quickly discover that each of the spaces has a human dimension even though they are contained within the one voluminous space.
