About Us

Snowdon & Hopkins.
Snowdon & Hopkins is a studio architectural office in the Vail Valley where we have been practicing since 1977. Our practice has focused on mountain architecture and we have designed a whole range of homes for spectacular and sometimes challenging sites. We have also designed many libraries - both public and private - and many large commercial and community projects.

Our Philosophy.
We provide a very personal service. We have specialized in the design of unique homes for clients who want a home that reflects their own personal values and aspirations. We work with your unique issues and develop a design concept which addresses those issues. We provide personal and consistent control of a project from the initial meeting, through the design and construction documentation phases, to field observation during construction. All jobs are the direct responsibility of one of the principals who works closely with you on every aspect of your job. We feel this personal service is the most important advantage in engaging an office such as ours.

The People.
The principals of Snowdon & Hopkins are Craig Snowdon and Pam Hopkins. Both are graduates of the University of Colorado, both are registered, and both are members of the American Institute of Architects.

Design Awards.
Snowdon & Hopkins has won numerous design awards for its homes, public, and commercial buildings. Its most prestigious honor is the national design award given by the AIA/ALA (American Institute of Architects and the American Library Association) for the Vail Library. This is a design competition which is held every two years and which attracts libraries from across the nation. The Vail Library won first place and was the unanimous choice of all the jurors, made up of practicing architects and librarians. The Vail Library has been written about in numerous publications and was even described as "the finest library in the world".
